Kirbira
In Kirundi, incuti means “relative,” but also “friend” - a perfect reflection of this coffee’s spirit. Grown near the Kibira Rainforest in northern Burundi, these bourbon cherries flourish at 1,900 meters alongside cassava, banana, and tea. The cool forest climate and fully-washed processing creates a bright, clean cup layered with citrus, spice, and a cooling strawberry-like acidity.
But this coffee is more than just flavor - it’s the product of intentional partnerships. We source this coffee through JNP Coffee, a Burundian woman-led importer, working to transform local communities through education and direct investment. In Burundi, women play a vital role in coffee production - from tending trees to sorting parchment. Yet, historically, they’ve been excluded from decision-making and financial agency.
Through JNP’s Dushime premium program, women are paid directly for their work and offered training in financial literacy, leadership, and sustainable farming. This kind of change doesn’t happen overnight - but it does happen when farmers and roasters invest in each other.
We’re proud to carry Kirbira - not just for what it tastes like (delicious by the way), but for what it represents - generosity, resilience, and the power of long-term collaboration.
